The City of Port Phillip have a specific policy for Stormwater Management (Water Sensitive Urban Design) in the Port Phillip Planning Scheme (Clause 22.12), requiring stormwater management to be incorporated into all developments greater than 50m² in floor area. For small to medium scale residential developments, most proposals include a rainwater tank that collects stormwater runoff from the roof and the tank is connected to toilets for flushing. Other common outcomes include raingardens and porous paving.
Council has developed a set of guidelines for applicants to be able to step their way through the process and submit a successful response to the WSUD policy. The Compliance Guidelines for Clause 22.12 Stormwater Management (Water Sensitive Urban Design) includes a step-by-step guide, how to prepare a response and example plans in an easy to read document.
