Overview

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) is exploring how stormwater flow target requirements already established under the General Environmental Duty (EP Act 2017) can work under the Victorian planning system. To inform this work, DEECA is running a series of workshops with the development industry to make sure there is clarity and consistency for developers when they are addressing stormwater flow targets across different types of new development in Victoria.

Join DEECA, EPA Victoria and Melbourne Water and hear directly about the regulatory context, see worked examples, and give your input on what implementation should look like on the ground.

What the workshops are about

The in-person sessions will:

  • Explain the relationship between stormwater flow targets, the General Environmental Duty, and Victoria Planning Provisions

  • Walk through practical examples of how flow targets can be met across different development types

  • Seek your input on implementation challenges, what's working, what isn't, and what support the industry needs.

Feedback from these sessions will inform investigations into how planning processes can better support stormwater flow objectives, as well as the guidance and support materials developed alongside them.

Two streams are currently open for registrations:

(1) Infill Development

(2) Greenfield Development

Note: DEECA is organising a separate session for Regional Victoria development contexts, with details to be announced shortly.

Who should come

These in-person workshops are for people working in land development in Victoria, including developers, engineers, planners, landscape architects, and other consultants involved in stormwater management and drainage design.

Stream 1 - Infill development
For practitioners working on medium and higher-density development in established suburbs. This stream will cover the particular challenges of meeting flow targets on constrained urban sites.

Stream 2 - Greenfield development
For practitioners working on large residential and mixed-use developments on the urban fringe. This stream will focus on how flow targets apply to broad hectare sites, subdivision design, and integrated water management planning.

Stream 3 - Regional Victoria context

(to be announced)

Places are limited, so DEECA requests a maximum of 3 representatives from each organisation.

When

Stream 1 - Infill development

Tuesday 4th August 10am to 1pm. Doors open from 9:30am.

Stream 2 - Greenfield development

Friday 7th August 9am to 12pm. Doors open from 8:30am.
