Montreal starts construction of its largest planned sponge park

Justin Jacques / Stormwater Report, WEF

Montreal has a plan to construct 30 "sponge parks" by the end of 2025 to address challenges with combined sewer overflows. Construction recently began on the largest of the planned sponge parks, in the Verdun neighbourhood. The transformation of the current site dominated by lawn aims to improve the site's recreational value while maximizing stormwater infiltration. You can find out more about this project here.
