Infrastructure Australia

The need for a National Water Strategy and strategic planning for water use and management have recently been listed as priorities by Infrastructure Australia.

The National Water Strategy would focus on town and city water security and would be expected to explore range of solutions to be considered for capturing, managing and distributing water, Infrastructure Australia has an Australia wide interactive infrastructure priority map which can be filtered by infrastructure type (can search by water projects for state and national).

Three major national water projects include (more information can be found via the map):

  • The National Water Strategy: The initiative is for a mix of infrastructure and non-infrastructure responses (such as demand management) to efficiently meet agreed service standards for water security in Australia’s towns and cities.
  • Town and city water security: The initiative is for a mix of infrastructure and non-infrastructure responses (such as demand management) to efficiently meet agreed service standards for water security in Australia’s towns and cities
  • East Coast Deep Water Container Port Capacity: The initiative is for infrastructure improvements which enable larger vessels access to Australian ports on the east coast. This could require channel deepening at existing ports, development of new port locations and enhanced land-side access infrastructure at ports.
