Australian Rainfall and Runoff 2019

Local flood modellers now have access to more reliable and robust data than ever before following the release of the latest update to Australian Rainfall and Runoff.

This tool is essential for reliable and robust estimates of flood risk, which in turn, help to ensure the safety and sustainability of Australian infrastructure, communities and the environment.

Geoscience Australia and Engineers Australia have been gathering user feedback since the comprehensive update to the national guideline document, data and software suite in 2016. The improvements made in the 2019 update reflect user feedback and requirements.

Some of the highlights from the 2019 update:

  • previously draft chapters are now finalised
  • methods for modelling floods in complex urban environments have been finalised
  • methodology for calculating design rainfalls and river-flows for future scenarios have been updated
