ArrayWater Sensitive Road Design - Design options for Improving Stormwater Quality of Road Runoff

This report investigates opportunities for incorporating stormwater quality improvement measures into road design practices for protecting aquatic ecosystems. The Cooperative Research Centre for Catchment Hydrology (CRCCH) has undertaken this work, with contribution from the CRC for Freshwater Ecology (CRCFE), to provide environmentally sensitive drainage elements for road designers.
The report provides worked examples for a number of possible options for the implementation of water sensitive road design practices, to help facilitate the adoption of multi-purpose stormwater management practices in road design and construction. This initiative has largely been in response to growing community awareness for environmental effects of urbanisation on the quality of water in the urban environment.
